Zipline

I get to cross one thing off my bucket list. I was invited to go to a zipline by Hermann, MO. I had a great time even though it was scary for me. I only did 4 lines, most the group paid an extra $40, and did a total of 10 lines.

I might get my nerve up again to go in the fall when it cools back off. It's been 100 to 113 this past week. Too hot to enjoy being outside.

After the zipline we went to Adam Pumcta for some wine, sausge and cheese. I had a great time today!

Pershing State Park

My husband and I went to Pershing State Park this past weekend. We walked trails, checked out a covered bridge and picked blackberries. There was only 4 other campers besides ours at this quiet park. It rained on Saturday. We enjoyed the cool temps until the sun came back out, then it was a sauna! But we had a nice time.

Blackberries of 2012

The blackberries, like everything else this year, ripened a little earlier than normal. They aren't very big but they are bigger than the last 2 years. My tame are doing good so far. And there is one more spot, on my land, where wild ones grow and some of them are still green but they are in shade. So far the ones in the shade look like they will be the best berries. Now I can beat the birds to them!

Father's Day Sunset

My dad is away on business but I'm so thankful I still have my dad after his aneurysms the past 2 years. Even though I didn't get to spend the day with my dad, I thank God, I'm able to wish him a Happy Father's Day over the phone.
We went to my husband's father's house for to play washers, great food and even some swimming. The pool felt great on such a humid day. Temps were in the high eighties but with the added humidity from another recent rain it made it feel much warmer.
We had such an awesome sunset last night. I was walking my dogs and enjoying the pinks and purple colors. Hope everyone else had a great Father's Day as well.

My silly dog

This is my Jake, the dog that won my heart, back in December. I almost took him back a couple times to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter. For one, he plays too rough with my Corgi, Dudley. Two, he doesn't play nice with cats! And three, he likes to dig for moles. But all in all, he's such a good dog and such a ham! He makes noises like he's talking to my husband and I. And if I get on to him for something, he flings himself to the ground and covers his eyes with his leg. He's a riot. So here he will stay.

Today I was laying in the grass (I'm sure I will pay for that with chiggers) and I hear him sigh. I look over and here's my Jake laying next to me on his back too.

Rain!

Yesterday we finally got some rain. Not enough to end the drought but some. Here's a few photos I snapped before heading off to Columbia, MO.

Saturday, June 9th 2012

The ground is hard and dry here. There hasn't been a measurable rain in mid Missouri since May 4th. There are huge cracks in the ground and most the grass is already brown and crispy. I'm glad I'm using containers this year. So far most of my veggies are doing very well.

Peppers and the pool

Green Pepper plant. And I'm sorry but I can't find the rotate button to turn the photo.
My husband and I took a drive to Versailles to eat at the Mexican Restaurant, buy a few things at Wal-Mart and then stop at a Mennonite green house and get some plants. We picked up a 4 pack of green peppers, 4 pack of sweet yellow peppers, 4 pack of sweet red peppers and a 4 pack of jalapenos. The green peppers already had some little peppers growing on them and they were still on those tiny 4 pack containers.

Next, I had to figure out where to put them. The last few years I tried my garden spot and nothing has done very well in there. So I mixed them in with my flowers, a 5 gallon bucket and some other empty flower pots. I hope they do well for me in pots.

As for the pool, we had bought one, years ago for Dudley. He didn't like it although Dudley loves to swim! After talking to a friend at work, whose daughter has a corgi and a pool for her dog, I thought I'd give it another try. He likes it!
